Benzyl chloroformate (1.1 equivalent) was added dropwise for 1 hour, maintained at 5°C for 2 hours, and then warmed to room temperature for 16 hours. The reaction mixture is diluted with brine, the product is extracted into EtOAc, dried by Na2SO4, and concentrated in vacuum to obtain oil. The residue was purified by rapid chromatography (10% EtOAc/hexane to 100% EtOAc) to give a compound N-benzoxyformyl -1,2,5, 6-tetrahydropyridine (99% yield) that is a colorless oil.
